I started a group on Facebook called the Yatco/Lateo Connection. It was formed to welcome anyone with any history or is interested in finding their roots as I am. My 2nd great grandfather was Valentin Yatco. He changed his name sometime in the late 1800s to Lateo, sometime around the death of Jose Rizal. As you know the Yatco name was a very prominent and wealthy family in which most resided in Binan, Philippines, so I found it very odd that he changed his name. Unconfirmed reports say, Valentin was friends with Jose Rizal. I have also been told that Valentin had 2 brothers and there was a division of property, assets or land. I’m not certain. I am also not able to find the names of his parents and brothers or any other siblings and whether or not they changed their names as well before he relocated to Santa Cruz, Laguna, Philippines. There is so much to this story that I would love to try to fill the gaps with some truth. I have a strong feeling he is the child of Jose “Coseng” Asuncion Yatco and Victoria Carlos Almeda Yatco. Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope everyone is well. I see we have a new format here. hehehe.

I’ve been very busy with school work and work work and some other stuff on the side. Plus getting sick on and off due to fatigue and overwork. hehehe. Encountered this while doing my paper on the pedigree of the Alberto House

“According to Jose Reynaldo Ocampo Cobarrubias:

Lolo Gil Ocampo married Lolo Magdalena Leyva Arevalo, son was Lolo Edilberto Ocampo, Mayor of Binan 1906-1909.
    2nd Generation
Lolo Edilberto married Lola Ma. Paz Yatco y Rizal.
    3rd Generation
Sons were Mauro Y. Ocampo and Vicente Y. Ocampo.”

This needs further citation (or confirmation from relatives) that aside from Gil Ocampo, there is also his sister Isabel (Ñora Abe) Ocampo who married Macario Marco. Their daughter Pilar married Zoilo Alberto. (Michael Robin Almendral) Just tried to tie this together.

    Hi Antonio,

I am currently doing genealogical research and am trying to put the reckoning together for the names Yatco, Alzona, De Guzman, De La Cruz and Pangilinan. Would it be possible to obtain a copy of the spreadsheet that you are working with so I can try to reconcile the information that I currently have on these families? I would be happy to return an updated sheet that contains the family lineages that I am able to verify as well as the current ones available to me.

    Regards,

    Tony

    Hi Toto,

Congratulations on the new The Families of Old Biñan Laguna IV site that I
finally found. What happened to The Families of Old Biñan Laguna II and III?

I also noticed that the format of the new site, as well as that of The
Families of Old Jaro, Iloilo and of Cebu, are different from the old site
format. I prefer the old format were the numbers automatically adjust and
without the shaded background, when you copy the posting into the Word
format. I normally copy the postings into Word format, so that I can do my
analysis even when I have no web connection.

As I was working on the Cuenco story, I came across the request of John
Martin Salcedo Ledesma posted on The Families of Old Jaro, Iloilo web
site. As he had not contacted Marietta, I am replying to his request.

    Best regards.

    Tony:

I think the problem was simply too much trouble scrolling down all those 333 comments (!!!) and that was why many of our contributors did not feel like making further inputs/comments.

I hope these additional FOBL blog posts (II. III. & IV) may be a solution and that our other contributors — Rafael Hocson, Lucy Francisco Borromeo, Christopher Yatco, Edgardo Legasto, Cesar Carino, Noni Agulto, Enrique Bustos, et al — will make a comeback to “The Families of Old Binan, Laguna”…

Yet again, Tony, thank you very much for your fantastic genealogical contributions about Old Binan!!!

    Cheers!!!

    Hi Lucy,

    Many thanks for the reply.

I have posted the November 13, 2011information of Rene Resurreccion on the
Almeda Family Tree. But, it did not contain the information I need.

Rene only focused on the family of Higino Francisco married Eduviges Rubio
Almeda. He did not provide information on the family of Pablo Rubio Almeda
    married to Petrona Gomez.

Ed Padlan (11/01/11) posted about the siblings of Manuel Gomez Almeda,
which you subsequently corrected (11/01/11) regarding the parentage of
Irene Francisco Almeda, who Leon Resurreccion from Pampanga. However,
to-date, there has been no clarification as to whether Manuel had a brother
named Leon, and no identification as to the sister that married a
Francisco; a sister, who married a Toledo; and possibly other siblings.

If the clarification that you and Ed have has to do with information
regarding the siblings of Manuel Gomez Almeda, your posting of the data on
the web will be highly appreciated.

    Regards.

    Hi Toto,

Having seen at least quite a number of your Remembrance of Things Awry
websites, it would seem that The Families of Old Biñan Laguna has the most
postings. However, the number of posting has drastically slowed down in
    2013 (2010 – 170 postings; 2011 – 133 postings; 2012 – 30 postings). As
of this writing, there have been only 6 postings.

The contributions to family histories have been tapering off. The
meaningful contributions from Cesar Cariño (02/22/11), Christopher Yatco
(12/14/10), Enrique Bustos (05/10/11), Noni Agulto (01/28/12) and Rafael G.
Hocson (10/25/11) have stopped and are sorely missed.

From my end, the search for relationships among Antonio Almeda married to
Maria Dolores Ponce; Lazaro Almeda married to Maria Jauna Marvillas
Custodio; Ponciano Almeda married to Severina Trinidad; and Jose Carlos
Almeda married to Barnabela Rubio has hit a dead end.

The issue as to whether Manuel Gomez Almeda had a brother named Leon and
sisters that married a Francisco and a Toledo are also still hanging.

Hopefully, the Cesar Cariño et. al will come back to share more information
on Biñan and old Biñan families.

Below is my comment of Lucy Borromeo’s 16 February 2013 postings.

Many thanks also to Noni Agilto’s 2 April 2013 head’s up on the parents of
    Josefa C. Gana.

    Best regards.

    Hi Everyone!

Happy Easter to all. Much has changed since I last saw this blog and I am quite amazed at the summary in the Ancestors section.

I would like to add, that in the THIRD GENERATION – ALBERTO CT. YAPTINCHAY

***”The ancestry of Josefa C. Gana, wife of Felix, and Josefa Carrillo Trinidad, wife of Francisco are unknown.”***

Josefa Carillo-Trinidad was the daughter of Mariano Reyes Carillo-Trinidad and Norberta Marfil (Ruferta in Cesar Carino’s research).

    Hi Toto,

Further to your mail of 29 January 2013, my posting on the intermarriages of old Biñan families was based on the correlation of the various family membership information that have been posted on the FOBL.

As a member of the Yaptinchay family, we received a copy of the Yaptinchay family tree developed by Concepcion “Tita Nena” Yatinchay Zamora. I converted the document into a spreadsheet format for easier appreciation.

In a similar manner, I transferred the family membership data from the FOBL into a spreadsheet per family. As names of family ancestors, contemporaries, and/or descendants are posted in the FOBL, they are entered in the spreadsheet or reconciled with the names already on the sheet. My biggest problem is when only the nicknames of family members are posted. The absence of formal first names makes the matching difficult.

I was able to piece together one Gana family tree starting with Vicente Tang-Gana or Tan Sek (Cynthia Z. Gana 02/06/12), but same cannot be said with the Yatco trees.

I have 2 Yatco trees as no relation between Marcos Dimas Yatco and Pedro Dimas Yatco has been established. Maybe Christopher Yatco can provide the link. Or maybe, the Yatco tree of Dr. Leoncio (Tito Leony) Gana Yatco has the link.

It is by comparing the data from the different family spreadsheets, that I developed my latest contribution. Please feel free to edit the connections I presented. Please give me a copy of the corrections so I can update my spreadshheets.

I have reconciled the Almeda family membership from the contributions of Rene Resurreccion, Ed Padlan, Lucy Francisco Borromeo, and Augusto Almeda Lopez. There are still conflicting data regarding the Almeda family tree posted in the FOBL that, according to Lucy Francisco Borromeo (04/26/12), she and Ed Padlan have clarified. She was asking for my mail address to send the information, but I do not know how to send the address to her, Lucy Francisco Borromeo. It would be best if Lucy or Ed can post the clarification on the Almeda relationship on the FOBL.

The Almeda connection that I still need be established are the links of Antonio Almeda married to Maria Dolores Ponce, parents of grandmother Encarnacion Almeda Casas; Ponciano Almeda married to Severina Trinidad, ancestor of Tita Freddie Almeda Consunji; and Lazaro Almeda married to Maria Juana Maravillas Custodio, parents of the Victoria Custodio Almeda, wife of Jose “Coseng” Asuncion Yatco; to Jose Carlos Almeda married to Bernabela Rubio.

As to your concern about looking for more proof that Bonifacia Mercado de Yatco was an elder sister of Francisco Engracio Mercado, it was Cesar Cariño (10/11/11) who raised the question that Bonifacia might not be the sister of Francisco Mercado Rizal, as her name was not mentioned in the site http://pinoygenealogy.wordpress.com/2010/04/24/jose-rizals-family-tree/ as one of the children of Juan Monicha Mercado. Though, in his earlier research (Cesar Cariño 09/01/10), Cesar identified Bonifacia Mercado as the sister of Francisco Mercado. Probably Cesar can share his initial findings as to why he concluded that Bonifacia and Francisco Mercado are siblings. Or, Christopher Yatco might be able to elaborate on how Bonifacia and Francisco Mercado are siblings.

Cesar Cariño (06/03/11), citing from Dr. Eusebio L. Koh’s book “The Chinese Ancestry of Jose Rizal”, identified the wife of Juan Monicha Mercado, as Cirila Alejandra, daughter of Domingo Lam-co’s, Chinese godson, Siong-co. The parents of Cirila Alejandra were Juan Sing-co (Syongco) and Maria Conio of Biñan (http://minerdescent.com/2012/03/25/juan-mercado/).

As previously mentioned (09/08/10), it could be possible that Cirila dropped Siong-co as her family name and was, thus known as Cirila Alejandra. Thus, children of Juan and Cirila Mercado carried Alejandra as their maternal surname.

Toto, your October 22, 2010 posting, identified the wife of Ysidro Yatco as Bonifacia Mercado y Alejandra. If indeed Alejandra is Bonifacia Mercado’s middle name, we have to search for identity of Bonifacia’s mother.

    Regards.

    Tony
