Reserved Requiem

Already on her fourth week in the Makati Medical Center ICU, the Dowager Empress is on a respirator but conscious.  She even requests to watch certain things on the telly.  Her whole family has been keeping watch on her most lovingly but her medical status is unstable and anything can happen.  There are two aneurysms in the aorta of her heart which are unfortunately inoperable.

Meanwhile, Manila Society is on tethers on what could be the most social funeral this year 2009 following in the heels of former Senator Maria Paz “Pacita” Paterno Madrigal-Gonzalez in September 2008 and the latter’s younger and far more glamorous sister Consuelo “Chito” Paterno Madrigal-Collantes in March 2008.  An ineffably grand Funeral Mass [ reminiscent of “Operation Teabridge” the Queen Mother’s 2002 Last Rites ] concelebrated by 100 bishops and priests with grand choirs and symphony orchestras at the Manila Cathedral is being planned.  The Grand Ladies — the genuine and the merely delusional — are planning their most suitably somber ensembles with the correspondingly spectacular jewelry;  the Gentlemen know that they will have to escort their ladies.

And She hasn’t even passed away yet…

SHE IS WELL AGAIN.  In fact, there was a Thanksgiving Mass offered for her recovery at Santuario de San Antonio.

Put away all the black silk gazar mourning dresses and the 17 mm. black pearls and the black diamonds… ditto the Nancy Gonzalez crocodile bags and the black Manolo Blahnik heels…

    Men by nature are Polygamous.
    During the late ’90s
TBC had an affair with this ‘yet another showbiz starlet,’
in fact, NOW a ‘City of the Stars’ Councilor.

This starlet has Jap-Hispanic blood running through her veins,
apparently, she doesn’t give much bright
    ideas during their official meetings
and also, already ended up her relationship with her
    domestic partner.

Let LE GRANDE DAME lie in state in one of the truly astonishing couture gowns by the late JOE SALAZAR. Sensing how she may be viewed only from the waist up, JOE make incredible Maria Clara and Baro’t Sayas for her.

It is incredibly embroidered and beaded so finely, THOSE Filipinanas in PASTEL shades would frame her PATRICIAN face.

Alas, I hope Ado and Danny would read this. I remember how Ado did his mother LOLA CHARING’S wake. A KAMAGONG coffin, big cathedral candles and a soft lavander spot light on her face.

I remember how Irene Araneta was amazed, as was I.

Ay, funerals they are either sooooo elegant or so …… nevermind.

Divina, your reportage is so funny.

I picture it as an outfit Marie Antoinette would’ve killed for when she was playing ‘shepherdess.’

Of course, she would’ve dyed the poor sheep to match the outfit.

L*ding, I’m afraid Her Majesty Queen Sofia only attends the Funerals of Royalty and other major political figures entitled to State Funerals. She is a very good and compassionate lady but an absolute stickler for protocol and does not attend, in Spain at least, private Funerals.

    Lady B,

The most “memorable” creation of his was a blue bouffant skirt, which she wore as Hermana Mayor of the Cofradia procession decades ago. A swathe of sky blue tulle encircled the dress and continued on to swirl around the silver Cofradia staff! MOC wore it like the Armada sailing to the Luneta Grandstand, where the altar was situated.

As an impressionable lad, I was forever scarred when I saw it on TV…

But we must give it to her for her bravado.

L*ding and G.I.! Am so happy to see you both again. Where have you been hiding?.
Not only Queen Fabiola will depart à la Chinoise, but Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands and Queen Juliana of the Netherlands did the same.
No, we Roman and Apostolic Catholics, must (especially if Opus Dei in Spain) put on a Sala Clementina Spectacle like the Funeral of a Pope and nobody excells at these excesses more than the Spanish with the best black crêpe, heaviest black wool and deepest purple is considered a frivolity. No, no, no, a Funeral in Spain must be of highly dramatic (and hypocritical) proportions. Please don’t forget what they did to Rizal and to Father Burgos. The mentality is still there and if you don’t see me again it’s because they’ve done the same to me, only my funeral will be in the simple church of Saint Louis des Français where I go to Mass a few times a week in the chapel of the old people’s residence.

“encase her in tulle” indeed! I love you for that!

Don’t you think that P**** M*****’s “couture” creations for her were absolutely atrocious? She looked like the transvestites at SanFo gay parades several times!

The Devil doesn’t wear P****, you know.

do we expect imelda marcos, corazon aquino, and gr*tchen coj*angco to be all in attendance at the manila cathedral? i say yes…

and of course chito madrigal will be ably represented by ch*chu madrigal.

i see d*nding and p*ping sitting side by side with each other.

    and t*ngting’s beauty contrasting with nik*i teodoro’s radiance…

So Fabiola will depart a la chinoise. The Chinese have been doing it for ages.

I also remember (Auntie) Mame Dennis mourning in white when she became Sra. Mame vda. de Burnside, and amiga cara Vera Charles, consoling her in black, as played by Bea Arthur looking like a truck driver in drag. 🙂 🙂

How about a black and/or deep purple wedding? It would be ever so chic.

This is incredible, on this end of the world we were preparing for the same thing to happen to the doyenne of Europe’s Royalty: Queen Fabiola of Belgium who’s Spanish and in Madrid now and has made an extraordinary recovery of the pneumonia she had but publicly is “officially” resting at her palace near Brussels.
I was even called by the British biographer of the Royal Family who writes these sorts of obituaries for The Times of London to keep him updated and rewrite her obituary. The worst part is that since “tsismis” is part of Spain’s culture, the “dying” Queen approved her new obituary.
Surreal, like anything in Spain where every day is like living in an Almodovar film, and in a way so is Queen Fabiola who has decreed as long as I remember that it’s to be a white funeral. Absolutely no lady may wear black, so by Manila standards it would be white Chanels, mantillas and high peinetas for the Spanish ladies and 17″ South Sea white pearls for the Ecclesiastical Cocktail and Lunch following her Funeral Mass.

That’s true. I forgot about them. But remember, Luis Tirso Rivil*a was a very handsome man. You will agree with me that their good looks are from the Rivil*a, not the Coj*angco.

Classical Coj*angco looks filtered down the Coj*angco-S*mulong line: Pete, Josephine, Terry, Cory, Peping, and Passy. Not very goodlooking but very rich. Good enough!!!

well, if stories are to be believed, it’s because gr***hen allows herself to be treated like a serf (well, more like a dog). he would scream and curse at her in public and she would scurry towards him. some even say that she is required to sleep with make up on and sometimes he would beat her up while wearing her finery… then again… most of these things are just talk… the truth always has a strange way of coming out so we will all know the mucky or rosy lives they really live in time.

let’s just hope that SHE still has some decency in her to not upset the hilaw mother-in-law especially now. if she goes there then she would totally debase herself…

Do you know that several years ago, at the onset of his affair with the actress, Tita M*ldy told us that T*ny Boy actually begged N*se not to agree to an annulment of their marriage because “She will finish me!!!” [ the actress, of course ]

However, the story may have changed by now… by all indications, it seems he is willing to be “finished” by her anyway.

The “daughter” you speak of is a genuine Coj*angco. There is no longer any doubt about that. Just look at her pixes in all the society magazines. Not only does she look like a Coj*angco, she looks like the Ramon Coj*angcos. Not very goodlooking.

Quite unlike the Eduardo Coj*angco Srs.. They are invariably goodlooking thanks to the infusion of the Murphy, Oppen, Teodoro, and Lagdameo bloodlines. Prieto and Lopez [ Balayan, Batangas ] have also been added to the mix.

It is said she requests all the three capes worn when she accepted the three Papal Awards to be displayed beside her coffin.

Don Ado Esc*dero and Danny D*lor are the “punong abala” planning her services.

“Bahala na kayo… ” she is purported to have said.

Such great wealth, yet so detached as the end draws near…

Give me more clues on who this Dowager Empress is. By the way, the lady I am referring to who has got the nerve to blackmail her lover… is really brazen and crass. Isn’t it that many believe the “daughter” is actually the offspring of her affair with an actor-politician? Even his own mother said in an interview that she knows he can’t have a child anymore because of a past accident that affected his fertility.

  24. issima said,

None of us in the group understand why he hasn’t ditched her yet, despite the fact that she is so clearly undeserving of him: He is a patrician gentleman who fully deserves a wonderful lady of his own kind. And after shamelessly bandying her affair with whatshisname!!! I know for a fact that she did threaten him that he would never see their daughter again if he left her, but for heaven’s sake, the latter is already in her teens and surely knows “which side of the bread is buttered” for her own sake.

Their relationship will surely be affected by the Dowager Empress’ passing, if and when it comes. Their union will be strengthened or dissolved, but it will not remain unchanged.

The controversial starlet wishes she is. Specially now that her dreams of “legitimacy” — religious, social, financial, etc.. — are only a heartbeat away…
