Suicide

Last weekend, all Manila was abuzz with the apparent suicide of an heir [ one of many ] to an old banking fortune.

With all that $$$ money, Why would he???

Strange people.

But I shouldn’t wonder.  I’m actually related to him through the Gonzalez-Sioco-Rodriguez-Santos line.

If ever I will commit suicide, it will have to be with great style…  I will make sure to book a suite at the Hotel Plaza Athenee in Paris [ or at the Hotel Meurice like Amschel de Rothschild ], order up a storm of panfried “Foie Gras” and Chateau d’ Yquem, and bottles of “Cristal Roederer” champagne for good measure, promptly get a severe “stroke” brain attack, and pass away blissfully, comfortably, and stylishly on freshly ironed Porthault linens…  *lolsz!*

That’s the way.  Not at the Makati Medical Center, not at Saint Luke’s Medical Center, not even at the Asian Hospital.  Terribly unchic.

    which suicide is this? are you referring to the hush-hush death of the scion living in morocco or the scion living in australia? but the scion living in australia wasn’t a suicide — from what i’ve heard. have i missed out on news of this “suicide” please enlighten me — i’ll trade it for juicier gossip (which you may or may not have heard already).

    Adjie!!! It’s you, isn’t it??? Wow!!!

    That would be sooooo stylish!!! Even the sisters Eugenie Livanos Niarchos and Athina Livanos Onassis Blandford Niarchos did not die in that uberchic style!!!

    Why-oh-why can’t Rich, Bored, Suicidal Filipinos think that way??? With that kind of Panache???

    But then, They probably have No Style in the first place!!! *lolsz!!!*

    Hay naku If I were to kill myself:

    I would BOOK the Parthenon and have a little poisonous snake in a Greek basket. Eat and dine and drink with my best of friends and behave like a mad Greek billionaire at all the fine restaurants at Kolonaki, helicopter up, have a last look at the world from an ancient point of view and wonder why we did to this earth what we did, sneak my hand into that basket and die like a Greek God. On simpler measures I would just jump into the Grand Canyon, am a no-nonsense thrill seeker…

    “With all the money, why would he?”

    Because of the humiliation of
    1. Seeing his bank raided and engulfed by a bigger competitor…
    2. …and its marquee fall down its once-august columns;
    3. having to suffer the degradation of being Just Another Exec in Just Another Department in that competitor bank, shorn of true authority;
    4. retiring to a cold, empty, and unwelcoming house (you know where, and you also who know who are NOT there);
    5. and the coup de grâce–realizing that his “fortune” had dwindled to an amount so pitiable,he must have thought himself hopelessly déclassé.

    He would have been able to still afford Cristal, but not too much.
    I think it’s a damned pity. Money and status, they’re just accoutrements.

    P.S. He didn’t die in a hospital.

    Plaza Athenee, huh? How ’bout the George V?

    I’ve had tea and swam at The Ritz; however, I must try the Athenee and the George V this year. Yeah, that should be good enough reason to visit Paree even for a night or 2 on my way back from T…

    Or one could end things at the Villa d’Este in Lago Como. Gorgeous. So, it would be very Tosca!
